The CNO, as an ex-officio member of the Medical Center Board of Directors, is responsible for strategic visioning, organizational decision-making, and practice innovation for the Medical Center. The CNO works in collaboration with a wide range of people to ensure the quality and safe care delivery of all patients and role models the highest level of professional accountability and professional development. The CNO also has oversight over nursing quality across the entire continuum of care for Healthcare.


The CNO  works to create an environment that empowers its nursing staff and allows them to provide the best possible patient care with the appropriate resources and support.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, or Business required.
  • Five years of senior leadership experience in a healthcare facility preferred.
  • Leadership experience in a Magnet facility preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.


License or Certifications:

  • Current Illinois RN License required.
  • Certification in Nursing Leadership: Nurse Executive (NE-BC) or Certified Nurse Executive (CENP) required within one year.


Responsibilities:

  • Identifies strategies for improving the quality of patient care and patient outcomes.
  • Leads all nursing staff toward immediate and long-range success by improving patient outcomes.
  • Identifies relevant emerging local, regional, state, and national issues and draws these to the attention of Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Contributes to organizational decision-making that is consistent with the values, vision, mission and standards of practice and quality.
  • Uses data to draw conclusions that can contribute to more efficient organizational operations.
  • Serves as a voice for clinical care nurses and empowers them to reach new heights of clinical excellence.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Knows and practices the prescribed philosophy, purpose, policies, and standards of Nursing/Patient Care Services.
  • Organizes, directs, and administers the Nursing/Patient Care Services in order to provide the level of care required by current medical and nursing standards.
  • Plans and coordinates with the CFO, utilizing the respective Nursing Leadership members for planning the budgeting requirements for personnel, supplies, and equipment.
  • Responsible for cost controls to ensure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from the approved departmental budgets.
  • Supports and develops Nursing/Patient Care Services in the coordination of the employee selection process, work assignments, performance evaluations, and staff development for these services.
  • Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement analysis and evaluation of patient care delivery and communicates with Administration on the activities/issues of Nursing/Patient Care Services.
  • Plans and recommends to Administration new facilities or equipment, or modifications thereto, needed to provide patient care.
  • Recommends, supports, and participates in education services, programs of education, and training, including orientation of new employees. Encourages and facilitates the professional advancement of employees by affording opportunities for further education and experience.
  • Recommends the modification, addition, or deletion of personnel policies to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide patient care coverage.
  • Initiates and participates in problem-solving, policy-forming conferences for Nursing/Patient Care Services. Maintains close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
  • Ensures that cordial relationships are maintained with patients, their families and friends, clergy, and other interested groups in the community. Interprets the goals of the Nursing/Patient Care Services areas to the community by maintaining harmonious and effective relationships with the education system, volunteer groups, agencies, and the community.
  • Participates in policy decisions that affect Nursing/Patient Care Services in the hospital.
  • Ensures that the organization’s daily operations and procedures are aligned with its mission, values and vision.
  • Assumes accountability for meeting quality and safety performance targets.
  • Develops and implements procedures, policies, best practices, and standards of care.
  • Plans and coordinates with the CFO, utilizing the respective Nursing Leadership members for planning the budgeting Directs and mentors Nursing Directors.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with nurse leaders internally and externally.
  • Oversees the healthcare organization to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and to stay on top of the latest regulatory changes in the healthcare industry.
  • Guides the organization through the processes of acquiring and maintaining accreditation.
  • Identifies opportunities for staff development and continuing education.
  • Collaborates with department heads, administrators, providers, and all other medical staff to inspire new levels of creativity and innovation to positively impact client service outcomes.
  • Identifies and implements new technologies that promote better patient care, more efficient operations, and a safer environment.
  • Assumes accountability for meeting quality, safety, and nursing engagement performance targets consistent with Magnet requirements.

  • Taking part in a two-year CEO-in-training program to take the next step in your career and become the chief executive officer (CEO) at one of our hospitals.
  • Being placed in a host hospital as an Associate Administrator and report to the hospital's CEO.
  • Developing and demonstrating the necessary qualifications to become a CEO while leading significant improvements in the hospital's culture, as well as financial, employee and patient-satisfaction outcomes.
  • Acting as a member of the hospital's leadership team and take responsibility for at least one department, with progressive responsibility based on demonstrated ability and hospital needs.
  • Completing the Associate Administrator Program curriculum and other tasks as assigned.
  • Applying for a position as CEO of a hospital where we have an opening upon successful completion of the program.


Credentials and Requirements:


  • Required: A strong desire to become the CEO/Administrator of an system hospital in approximately 2 years.
  • Required: Commitment to approximately 2 years as an Associate Administrator and an additional 3 years as an hospital CEO/Administrator (subject to on-the-job performance and business needs).
  • Required: Willingness to relocate possibly twice within two years to any system hospital.
  • Required: Bachelor's degree. Preferred: MBA or MHA.
  • Required: Three years of management experience in a hospital setting required, including:
  • Managerial responsibility including selection, performance appraisal, performance management and discipline, compensation, promotion and termination decisions for at least 1 or more direct reports.
  • Input on budget development and responsibility for operating within a budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Required: Evidence of consistently above average performance as compared to expectations for comparable positions.
  • Required: Evidence of the effective application of strong competencies/skills in: Analysis, business acumen, change agility, collaboration, communication, decision-making, leadership, strategic focus, talent management, and technical mastery within one or more disciplines important to inpatient rehabilitation hospital operations.
  • Preferred: Two years of senior management experience in health care, including: Hospital (or comparable corporate, region, or subsidiary) responsibility for one or more of the following departments: Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Nursing, Therapy (inpatient), Quality, Case Management, or Human Resources.
  • Managerial responsibility including selection, performance appraisal, performance management and discipline, compensation, promotion, and termination decisions for a staff including at least 3 direct reports.
  • Departmental responsibility for budget development, oversight, and spending.
  • Preferred: A desire to progress beyond CEO/Administrator in 5-10 years.

My client urgently needs to fill these Leadership positions as they are pivotal in the operations of several new facilities!  I have listed the minimum requirements to apply. 


Qualifications 
License or Certification: Current State license as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist. 

  • CPR certification is preferred unless otherwise required by hospital policy. 
  • Completing the SLP Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) is required if the clinician is an SLP. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Completed a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited therapy program required. Additional training with a Master's or Doctorate in a professional or management area is preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years of rehabilitation experience, which includes two years in management, is required. 
  • Active on Therapy Clinical Ladder (when eligible) or specialty professional certification, preferred.
